Chamonix in Franschhoek

Chamonix offers several accommodation types including lodges and guesthouses spread across the estate. The Panorama Suite features an open-plan layout with a kitchenette, a balcony with views of the valley and mountains. The Marco Polo Lodge suites have spacious rooms with a patio overlooking the mountain. All rooms include a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, free toiletries, and a hairdryer. Some rooms have a seating area. Note: a vehicle is necessary as accommodations are spread out.

The on-site Arkeste Restaurant serves gourmet meals using seasonal ingredients. Breakfast is served in the main lodge, offering both hot and cold options. Wine tastings are held in the historic blacksmith's cottage, dating back to the 18th century. Guests can sample award-winning wines and spirits produced on the estate. The restaurant requires advance booking.

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool with a view of the vineyards and mountains. Pool towels are provided. Guests can explore the 300-hectare estate on foot, with walking paths through the vineyards and along mountain trails. The estate also has a shared lounge and TV area. Note: there are no longer game drives or a game reserve. The estate is planting new vineyards, so heavy machinery may be present.

Chamonix is located about 5 km from Franschhoek town, on the eastern slopes of the Franschhoek mountains. It is a 70 km drive from Cape Town and 72 km from Cape Town International Airport. The estate is situated in the Cape Winelands, close to the Franschhoek Village with local shops and restaurants. A car is essential as the accommodation is spread across the estate and the nearest restaurant is a short drive.

The hotel offers free WiFi, free parking, and accessible parking. Safety deposit boxes are available. Room service is not provided, but guests can request assistance from staff during the day. The staff, including Brywell and John, are known for being helpful and friendly. Special diet menus are available upon request. The estate also provides a wine tasting experience with a discount for guests. Note: staff are not on site after 6 PM.
